50 Hours & Angels     June 4, 2022

I decided about 6 months ago, to spend a little more on my flights so that I would be able to make good time getting to Kenya. I actually found some flights that were only 18hours in total, which is fantastic! However, as I mentioned last week, I was having issues due to a cancelation. Well, I had two options: I could get a refund and repurchase my flights for about a thousand more. Or I could take anything they could work out on their end. So, with all things settled, I took what they had and added an extra 15 hours of layovers to my trip. And the airline said they wouldn’t be able to get me accommodations for the overnight in new York.

So, I showed up at the airport yesterday, thinking that I had it all sorted out. I said goodbye to my husband, made it to the front of the line, and found out that there was a completely new delay. This one was a maintenance issue, but it had the same effect of changing all my flights again. So, they moved things around, added a few more hours, then sent me back home to try again today.

I came in hours early and when I made it to the front, the attendant advised me that the lady yesterday had made a mistake. She arranged a flight into one New York airport and out of a different one. I mean, what do you do at this point? I almost felt like I was on Punked. I started to get disheartened when the attendant said, don’t worry, we will work this out.

This was the first time in this entire process that someone took ownership and decided to help. She plugged away on the computer until finally she made it work. It would still be many hours, about 50 at this point, but I would definitely make it. As she started to explain the plan, she stopped and asked it I would be going to do God’s work? I was surprised at such a bold question, but I smiled and told her that I am going for work to train businesses. However, I let her know that I am a Christian, so I believe that everything that I do is for Him. She smiled and let me know that it was all going to be okay.

She saw that I had an extra bag, so she moved me up to first class for 40$ where the bag would be free rather than an extra 100$. And as she took those bags one at a time she prayed out loud for me to have success and safety. She also advised that this maintenance issue was their fault, so she would set me up with dinner and a hotel once I arrive in New York.

I asked her if I could take her picture or share with her company about the kindness and awesome customer service that she showed. She smiled and shook her head no. She said, “let’s let Jesus have this one. I would rather get my reward later.” I got my boarding pass and went straight here to a corner of the lobby.  Here I am crying tears of relief and thanking Jesus for favor. So much of this hasn’t been easy. However, due to the experience that I just had, I am assured that I’m doing the right thing and headed in the right direction.

Let’s go, I’m ready.
